The tray column is used to make contact between the gas and liquid phases to make them as close to the equilibrium state as possible.
Tray is one of the most prominent hardware used for mass transfer. Tray columns are widely used in various types of mass transfer operations. Based on the pallet efficiency of a specific service, all predicted simulation results for a certain number of theoretical stages can be converted into actual pallets.
In any traditional tray, steam rises through a liquid pool on the tray deck and then separates from the liquid in the space above the deck. The liquid enters the tray through the downcomer above and then exits through the downcomer below. The tray column has also been successful in distillation and absorption.
The minimum allowable capacity of a column is determined by the necessity of dispersion and contact with the effective phase. The ability of different types of trays to provide low gas and liquid flow rates varies.
The sieve cross flow tray can operate at a reduced gas flow rate until the liquid is discharged through the perforation and the gas dispersion is insufficient to achieve good efficiency.
Due to the valve being closed, the valve tray can operate at very low gas levels. The bubble cap tray can be operated at very low gas levels due to its sealing arrangement.
